Top 5 Souls Bosses

$

Having recently finished Dark Souls I (Prepare to Die Edition) & II (Scholar of The First Sin Edition) on PC, I've decided to make a blog on some of my favorite fights. These are my top 5 favorite fights in no particular order.

The Black Dragon Kalameet

Kalameet is said to be the last ancient dragon. Distinguished by his crest that gives the appearance of one eye, he is the bringer of calamity. Kalameet is an exclusive boss fight to those who own the Dark Souls DLC: Artorias of The Abyss and can be summoned where you fought the Knight Artorias. Although I found this fight a little frustrating at times, it was visually impressive with well done fight mechanics. It's not one to forget.

"If thou seeketh to explore this domain, be wary of a black dragon. I fear thee no match for this terrible beast."

King Vendrick

King Vendrick is a boss in Dark Souls II. Once a great king, he spent his life to stop the demon Nashandra, disguised as his Queen, from gaining the throne of want. Instead he made a set of instructions so that your character could attain the throne of want and construct the new monarch. Although this fight isn't super exciting, nor is it difficult, it's still very tragic. It's difficult to see a person who accomplished so much, end with a terrible fate.

"The King was wasted away, a shadow of his former self."

Sanctuary Guardian

A demonic chimera guarding the Oolacile Sanctuary, is another boss in Dark Souls DLC content. This fight is a favorite of mine due to the high amount of attack patterns this fight has. The creature is well designed, the visuals are fantastic, and the diversity to the fight itself makes this a pretty memorable boss. Lots of dying here!

Ornstein and Smough

Loved by ragers everywhere, this dynamic duo come together to orchestrate a marvelous, hair-pulling performance! Behold, Ornstein and Smough! What I like about this fight is that while it makes you want to smash your PC through the nearby window, you're still having a lot of fun. It's an impressive display of a love-hate relationship with this fight. Ornstein is a captain of the Four Knights of Gwyn, while Smough is a royal executioner who dreams of joining the ranks with the Knights of Gwyn.

The Great Hero Knight Artorias

An exclusive DLC boss to Dark Souls..This fight is absolutely amazing. It's not broken, it's fair, and a true test of skills. Tragic and epic, this fight is more than just another boss fight for those who understand the lore. My favorite without a doubt.

"Thou shalt see further on, an Abyss was begat of the ancient beast, and threatens to swallow the whole of Oolacile. Knight Artorias came to stop this, but such a hero has nary a murmur of Dark. Without doubt he will be swallowed by the Abyss, overcome by its utter blackness... Indeed, the Abyss may be unstoppable..."

Thanks for reading! Praise the sun.

Fun little blog tonight:

If you had to fight the main character of the last movie you saw, who would it be and how would you do against said character?

Mine would be Brendan Fraser from The Mummy and I wouldn't last a second. He's very skilled, powerful, and knowledgeable in various arts of combat.

Hey everyone! Hope you're all doing well. Sorry I haven't made a blog recently, but life has been keeping me busy lately and lots of exciting plans and activities are coming together nicely.

  • Purchased Bloodborne last Saturday and I've been putting quite some time on it. It's absolutely fantastic! Will make a blog on my character when I reach endgame, showing my build, weapons, etc. PS4 is amazing.
  • Starting daily jogging again as I've done for years, and working to increase distance, as well as lap times.
  • Still chipping away at my Summer Job. Lots of fun.
  • Going to re-activate my FFXIV account after being absent for a few months.Really looking forward to the new expansion and catching up on the latest patches, pre-expansion. I'm going to start playing it on my PS4 since it runs it quite a bit better than my laptop. Controller seems worth trying too.
  • Going to start visiting the cottage on the beach and spend the day with some friends. Summer tradition!

The Future ahead! What Game Are You Currently Looking Forward To The Most?

With amazing titles such as Star Wars battlefront, Zelda U, Rise of the tomb raider, and many others approaching their release dates, what release are you the most excited about? Why?

I'm currently pumped for the release of Persona 5. I became a major fan of the Persona series after playing P3 and P4 Golden. The story in each game is fantastic. The characters are memorable and virtually iconic in their own respect. The RPG and gameplay mechanics ATLUS displays are very well done and captivating. I expect no less from Persona 5, which by the trailers we've seen so far, looks incredible. I love the costume theme they're using to design the main characters as well as the fast and unique movement outside battle. The customization looks more in-depth too which will really add some spice to the series!

Looking forward to your comments!

Thanks for reading my blog and have a wonderful day ^^

The Most Annoying Video Game Characters Ever!

$

It's fair to say that throughout our gaming experiences, most people have come across an extremely irritating character. Maybe it's their design, their sound, or perhaps even the type of people they are and the choices they make. Regardless of what the reason may be, they've left a dent in our hearts.

The following is a list of some annoying characters I simply couldn't stand!

Navi

From The Legend of Zelda, Navi is one of the most infamous characters known to the gaming world. This reputation is gained mainly from the voice, which when combined with the numerous amount of times you have to hear it throughout Link's adventure, slowly but surely renders one on the verge of insanity. To further add to the damage, Navi often pointed out obvious things or gave vague information for player progression.

Amy

Amy is without a doubt the most annoying character across the  Sonic series. She's always whining and angry at Sonic for little to no good reason whatsoever. Gameplay/story involving her is often very boring with little to offer. Even when she's not her typical self, Amy is nothing to remember about. Bland and cliche is all to see here. Slowing down Sonic is all she does well!

Gary Oak

Look I'll be honest, Gary can totally be a cool guy. However, he has a few nasty habits that makes me want to teach him a thing or two! See, Gary likes to show up at the wrong times. Just when your pokemon are tired and exhausted, he shows up with his relatively tough team, ready to go 200% Gary. And then there's his personality. Cocky and arrogant, you can be sure he will smell ya later.

Slippy

Having played StarFox 64 on the 3DS, this guy made my time pretty bad. Slippy is a smart, happy little guy, but he has a high tedency to get in trouble ALL THE TIME. At some point I really just wanted to shoot him down! I mean if you're going to roll with Fox's crew, git gud for God's sake!

Claptrap

From Borderlands, Claptrap drives me absolutely crazy. He rarely stops talking, makes corny jokes, and screams more often than not. His annoyance has more of a profound effect than the good he has to offer throughout the game.

Thanks for reading my blog!

Feel free to share any characters that you found annoying throughout your gaming experiences!

What final boss fight(s) offered the greatest experience for you?

SPOILER ALERT!

Please note that this blog contains spoilers. Read at your own risk!

SPOILER ALERT!

For as long as I can remember, certain video game genres have always had enemies that far exceed mobs in respect to power. These are often known as the boss. The boss typically leads the lower ranked enemies and have really unique designs, abilities, and move sets. Of course, there are special variations of the term and can extend to what is known as the final boss. The final boss is typically the master mind behind whatever crisis you face, and more than often coordinates other boss fights/events. He/She can appear multiple times throughout the game, and sometimes only once at the end. These fights can offer a level of emotion different to other boss fights. This is because at times, there exists a special connection between the protagonist and the antagonist. Perhaps they were best friends or even more, family. Whatever it may be, countless classics through the ages have shared their own idea of the fight to end it all, leaving haunting and powerful  memories in our minds.

FromSoftware's Bloodborne really struck me having recently finished the game. The final boss was magnificent.

Bloodborne's lore can be extremely confusing and complex, but behind that mess is a beautiful and genius story if you put in the time to understand it.The final boss in the game is an individual known as Gehrman, the first hunter. Being an extremely powerful hunter just like yourself, this legendary figure slayed beasts far more monstrous than the game offers and hunted with other legends such as Ludwig. He appears in the game world several times, often telling you a few tips or a thing or two about the game lore. What made Gehrman really special is that he wasn't evil, nor was he good. He was simply well aware of what was going on in this endless cycle of nightmares. He was chosen to be the host of the dream by the moon presence, a very being he himself truly despised. In addition to his role, Gehrman existed to prevent the influence of humanity over the Great ones, God-like beings that hunger for a higher conscious. Gehrman throws a curve ball at you by giving you the choice to escape the dream and return to a better reality. He wants to save you. He doesn't want you to become the very thing he is now. If you accept his offer you get what is essentially the good ending. Refusing his offer leads to two more endings. One where you become the Host of the dream and one where you essentially become a great one. Your character becoming a great one is especially significant because you remain as a human with human consciousness; something never before seen in respect to these monstrous beings.

Regardless of which path you choose after refusing his offer, you must fight Gehrman, as he tries his best to stop you from going down the wrong path. What follows next is a masterpiece duel to the death. The stage set before you is absolutely beautiful, and the music is a performance that speaks the sadness and anger Gehrman must have felt. Furthermore, The fight offers a tremendous challenge if you're not well prepared and requires some serious strategic notions if your parry skills are not top notch.

I found it difficult to hack him down because I knew he was fighting for me, but my refusal only meant that I was going down a twisted path I could never return from. This final fight is in my opinion, FromSoftware's best. Bloodborne is truly a treasure to the gaming world and a wonderful title for Playstation to have.

"Tonight... Gehrman joins the hunt...."

Final Fantasy XV, The Knight in Shining Armour!

$

Welcome, Kupo!

Final Fantasy is a long-time running and well known series developed and owned by Square Enix. The series has made many marks on the gaming world, achieving things others could not in a respective era. Each game provided the player with an excellent and beautiful story, each unique to the changing cast as the series progressed. Game mechanics also varied, promoting diversity and a refreshing approach to each title. With lots of memorable, iconic characters, scenes, and soundtracks, Final Fantasy went on to become the most popular RPG franchise known. There is one problem, however. Fans have argued that the series has been in a decline since Final Fantasy X, and especially with Final Fantasy XIII. With various complaints revolving around game mechanics, to limited exploration because of a linear-like structure, many believe the chances of seeing another great official title is rapidly diminishing.

..Or is it? In steps Final Fantasy XV to bring back the light of the crystal!

Having recently purchased Final Fantasy Type-0 HD on the PS4, I was rewarded with a little code to try out the Final Fantasy XV demo. Being a fan of the turn-based Final Fantasy games, I will be honest when I say the whole idea of FFXV's game-mechanics had me on the edge from previous trailer viewings. The old-fashioned saying "Never judge a book by its cover" struck me like a 9999 hit. Upon learning the combat and quickly getting adjusted to it, I began to see just how complex and brilliant this mechanic was. It never felt repetitive. It kept me alert and always thinking. The satisfaction of wiping out an entire mob of difficult enemies was like that to a Dark Souls game. With various skills, some with references to other games such as the dragoon jump, and lots of well developed dodge/parry/counter mechanisms, the diversity was unreal. Add in that this was just a severely limited demo, one can only imagine what awaits in the finished product. Change is often good, and for Square Enix, it is an outstanding approach to the series.

As far as the visuals and scenery go, they are fantastic and retain some of the classic Final Fantasy setting many have come to know. There is a frame-rate issue in the demo, but that's to be expected from such a ground-state version. The day-night cycle is really cool and offers changes within the game, with night time typically providing the player with a little bit more challenge. Fans will be happy to know that your hero can explore to his heart's delight and do side-quests as you see fit. The potential for Chocobo-riding seems very likely too! Be careful though, there are many monsters roaming around within the game world ready to pick up a fight. Speaking about the inhabitants of the game world, some of them are beautifully-designed giants that leave you in awe, while others are menacing and terrifying like the series classic, behemoth. The AI is incredibly realistic too, making you feel like your choices truly matter. Leveling is a little bit different from other titles in the sense that you collect EXP, then level up at a resting area, followed by a nice little meal with your friends.

Square Enix almost always nails the soundtracks with its Final Fantasy games and XV has a lot of greatness to offer. You're met with a lovely and soothing theme in the game-menu that feels oddly nostalgic. Some really neat adaptations of classic tunes are present while the game features its own epic unique music that does a terrific job to suit a respective mood. The fight with Behemoth wouldn't be complete with the God-like music that gets your blood running! I truly can't wait to see what Square Enix will orchestrate in the final product.

While I personally don't believe the Final Fantasy series is going downhill, it's hard to ignore the large amount of people who do. I truly think that through XV, many will once again find the excitement thought to be lost with this legendary series and grow to love the direction Square is heading in from here on. Square Enix managed to keep many classic elements of the series despite the large change. That itself is truly impressive and shows dedication and potential in regards to XV. With everything I've seen in this wonderful little demo, and knowing very well that the final product will be worlds better, I've come to one conclusion:

That is how Final Fantasy is meant to be.

Thanks for checking out MyIGN blog!  if you've played the XV demo or have a thought on how this may impact the series, please leave a comment, I'd love to see it!

While I love making blogs and interacting with others, there are other things I'm working towards attaining as my time here grows. For starters..

  • It would be totally cool to reach level 20 on MyIGN! Really motivates me to keep pushing out content. I'm making good progress, I think!
  • Meet new people and follow them to keep up with their content and actions.
  • Improve my content enough to qualify for IGN All-Stars (The Ultimate Goal).
  • Comment Moderator. I lurk the comment sections on the front page. Unfortunately there's a lot of inappropriate content/trolling that goes unresolved.

Why you should be excited for Kingdom Hearts 3!

$
0
0

Kingdom Hearts is an Action JRPG series developed and published by Square Enix. It is a cross-over game approached with the influence of Final Fantasy and Disney. While Cross-over games have become more popular as of recent, the Kingdom Hearts series is believed to have influenced that particular approach to games, seeing as it was a very popular release back in 2002. The series has been well received across all games, with over 25 million copies sold in total. Aside from games, the series has released multiple soundtracks, figurines, books, and even a manga adaption.

"They've become a part of my heart, just as I've become a part of theirs. My friends are my power, and I'm theirs."

Having recently watched some E3 bits, my excitement for Kingdom Hearts 3 shot through the roof. Here's why you should be excited:

Utilizing Next-Gen graphics, the visuals are absolutely gorgeous. Kingdom Hearts 3 makes great use of the particle effect, and adds an element of visual realism by making the environment feel alive with everything that happens around it. Director Tetsuya Nomura has stated that the in-game world would be finely interconnected, instead of a loading time in-between areas as seen in previous games. He also mentioned that the size of a world is far larger than any of Kingdom Hearts 3's predecessors.

The game play is so far, the most wonderful aspect Kingdom Hearts 3 has to offer. While the foundation hasn't changed much from Kingdom Hearts 2, many things have been vastly improved considering the limitations of the past. The combat has become more fluid, flowing beautifully from enemy to enemy. The ride-themed attacks appear powerful and magnificent, while the game has added lots of jaw-dropping stunt attacks and complex abilities. Of course, you'll have the aid of some Disney characters like in previous games. In the trailer, we're shown how easily they can change the tide of battle through impressive abilities. The enemies are well-designed and the boss fights look as exciting as ever.

Director Nomura is also considering the possibility of online play, as he believes it will keep the game refreshing. He has plenty of ideas up his sleeves but so far none have been discussed. I'd personally like to see some form of Co-op through the main story, or perhaps an assortment of features based around a customized character. Even if the game should lack online play, I think Kingdom Hearts 3 can easily get away with it, seeing as the main game would have a tremendous amount of content.

While not much about the story is known, I think it's safe to say that it will be mildly confusing and deep like previous titles. Good ol' Kingdom Hearts!

Thanks for checking out MyIGN. Feel free to share your thoughts and hopes on Kingdom Hearts upcoming title! Have a terrific day.

Why you should get Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth!

$

0

Let's face it. If you grew up with Pokemon, there's a good chance you probably were exposed to the world of Digimon. A great series featuring kids with fancy gadgets that allow them to fight evil digimon alongside their very own. With awesome monster designs and a unique evolution system, Digimon held its ground for a respectable amount of time before losing popularity in the west. I followed both religiously, but somewhere in that time span, Digimon vanished from my life.

Step in Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, a fresh reminder of how special this series was. Cyber Sleuth has a great deal to offer. Boasting pretty graphics, deep mechanics, and a unique story, you'll be more than satisfied if you've been craving to play a Digimon game. Even if you're not a fan of the series, or have no idea what it is, the game as it stands is worth it to anyone who enjoys JRPGs. Let's look at some reasons why you should get Cyber Sleuth!

The player roams around dungeons, encountering other digimons and hackers to fight with. As far as the gameplay is concerned, it's conditional turn based, with over 230 digimons having their own skill animations and unique move-sets. One might even compare it to having  the same approach as the Persona series or even Final Fantasy X. If you're a fan of either one, you may find enjoyment from this game. Once outside of the dungeon (digital world), you're free to roam around the large city and go about your business.

Digi-farm allows players to interact with, and train their digimons. It is possible to get item rewards too! Players can evolve or de-evolve their beloved monster companions once it meets specific level requirements and/or stats. A digimon may evolve into several different digimons, so the player is encouraged to play around and have fun discovering new evolution paths. Lots of possibilities and depth!

Wild digimons will allow your player to scan them with the Digimon Capture tool. Every time you see a digmon species, it will increase in scan %, eventually reaching 100% and allowing the player to ask any encounters to join he/she for their adventure from the Digimon lab menu. The scan can reach 200%, which will yield digimons with better stats.

Online and offline battle tournaments/Colosseum are also available in Cyber Sleuth. Become a Digimon champion!

Cyber Sleuth is a great game regardless of your connection to the Digimon series. If you crave JRPGs, then you simply cannot go wrong with this exciting title. Who knows, maybe the series will warm up to you?

Digimon Cyber Sleuth is set to be released 2016 for NA/EU. Thanks for reading MyIGN blog.

Happy blogging!

Arkham Knight's Soundtrack is unforgettable!

I've never been a Batman fan, nor played any of the games before Arkham Knight until my brother gifted me the game. I wasn't sure that I was going to really enjoy it. Got proved totally wrong. The story is incredibly powerful and I'm still thinking about it, having beaten it for at least 3 days now. I love the free-flow combat, the stealth, the gadgets, the car, the environment, the side missions. This game made me a Batman fan!

..But you know what I also really liked? The soundtrack. Absolutely catches the intensity, insanity, and sadness of Arkham Knight. When you think about the scenes were they occurred and the things Batman was willing to do, it just makes you appreciate it so much more.

What a wonderful game.

"It's what you taught me....do the right thing....it's all that matters...goodbye Alfred"

"Bruce. I ask that you honor the Wayne family legacy and commit yourself to the improvement of Gotham City, its institutions, and its citizens… Please be strong. You are young but destined for great things. Make the most of your opportunities. Use them to give back to a city that has given us so much, to change the lives of millions of people…"

What Soundtrack Do You Think Would Work For a Super Smash Bros. Game?

Hello Everyone!

So being a huge fan of the Smash series, I always loved going into the BGM section and listening/adjusting my favorite music. Brawl in particular had an amazing soundtrack, with most of them being carried over to SSB4. The series has always had just the right music to fit the occasion regardless if you're playing alone or with a party of friends. From Happy, finger tapping goodness, to angry, mysterious, epic and insane, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

So I had myself thinking..

If I was given the chance to add at least one track to the current SSB4 or a potential SSB5, which one would I pick? Having recently watched one of my childhood films, Pokémon Heroes, I found the answer to my question!

For some reason this sorta has the Gaur plains vibe to it, while having a strong element of mystery as the piece progresses. It starts out fresh, and ready to provoke a fighting spirit to those who listen. Then it gets a bit serious and naughty, almost representing the struggle of the losing player and his or her's possible anger. It's followed up by a tense theme, as if the entire fight is drawing to an end and time is running out. Rinse and repeat! I like the variety!

I would definitely like to see a venetian themed stage for Pokémon with this BGM.

What track would you choose and why? Thanks for reading MyIGN blog and have a wonderful weekend!

My Bloodborne Character!

I've been playing Bloodborne again so I thought it would be interesting to share my character! I currently use the Bloodstained Wanderer build which focuses on the use of Chikage's alternate blood weapon form and the Evelyn as the firearm. Both of these weapons make excellent usage of the bloodtinge stat. I like it because not only do the weapons look really nice, but it's also a very powerful build and viable for both PvE and PvP.

My Character and Weapon info:

Reina (Level 110)

Chikage +10

Evelyn +10

Vit: 30

END: 30

STR: 10

BT: 50

ARC: 15

I'd love to hear about your character!

Hey everyone! Nyan Nyan here. Today's Pokémon Question of the day is:

What Pokémon type do you find the most interesting? Why?

I personally find ghost types to be quite eye catching. Why? Because it's super sketchy. Dead Pokémon with super natural abilities fighting against the living!? WHY IS THIS A THING? How does a ghost Pokémon faint? Are they not immortal? Why do they evolve? Ya I know, it's a fictional show/game series and all, but this type leaves me with so many questions and it bothers Nyanners!

Nyanner's Life Corner: Starting My Second Year of University!

Dear MyIGN community,

I start University on the 9th, and I'm incredibly excited! I miss the freedom, the atmosphere, and all my friends at University. I especially miss Super Smash Bros. game nights! That ~4 month summer break is just too long, but thankfully it also gave me the chance to save up quite a bit of money. Being home is nice, but it becomes pretty boring. I'm going to miss my mother's cooking, but I'm not so bad myself since I learned from the best!

I'm going to be taking Organic Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Stats for Scientists, Bioethics, Biochemistry, and a few more exciting subjects. I hear that Organic Chemistry brings hell, but Nyanners likes a challenge. I've always found school a little bit easy, so I'll see if Organic Chemistry truly has a "Final form" to fear.

One thing I'm not too excited about is buying textbooks. Goodness they are so expensive! It's just paper with pretty colors.

I leave tomorrow, for a 6-hour drive. Have to prepare my dorm and find my class locations when I finally arrive. Should have gone to bed hours ago, but Nyanners going to Nyanners.

I hope you're all doing wonderful! Feel free to share anything exciting in your life as of recent.

I'll start blogging again, I promise. Just a lot of things going on!

Don't get lost: Nyanner's Top 3 Desert-themed areas in Video Games!

$
0
0

This is in response to Lost_In_Translation's weekly blog theme #48!

Desert-based regions/dungeons in video games have always been exciting for as long as I can remember. Many adapt the theme using various elements such as:

  • Quick sand: In this case, the player is either slowed down significantly, adding challenge to external factors, and in some cases, it can be game over if the character sinks down enough! Scary!
  • Scorching Sun: Often adds the element of heat which may require the character to have special gear or deplete resources to survive the environment.
  • Sand storms: Increases the challenge by making it difficult to navigate. May hurt the player and may also restrict access to certain locations in the game world.
  • Enemies: Are often assassins/snake/venomous/skeletons/worms, etc

Below are three games that I believe used the desert theme well:

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess did a great job with the desert theme! The sand-crawlers, the large open area, bandit camps, crevices, and eerie calm at night made this area very exciting and daring to navigate through. The temple following this area also used many of the elements mentioned in the introduction such as skeletons, the use of sand to make navigation difficult, etc.

Final Fantasy X

Final Fantasy 10 used the standard adaptation of the desert, but with the addition of ruins such as those above, it made for very interesting scenery. Being able to look beyond the gates gives the player a sense of the vast, open desert that lies beyond.

Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald

I think most pokemon fans remember this one. It wasn't necessarily mandatory to go through it, but this desert region used various elements that made the area a bit of an annoyance. The sandstorm made it difficult to navigate, and it further added complications during battle, as every turn would hit with light damage on the player's pokemon if it wasn't type steel/rock/ground, etc. This location offered fossils and it also housed a legendary Pokemon.
