A Look At Some Powerful Weapons In Video Games

$

The Master Sword

Found in several titles from The Legend of Zelda, the Master Sword, or the Blade of Evil's bane, is a holy sword created by the Goddess Hylia with the aid of the chosen hero and the spirit Fi. It is used by Link, the main hero and is usually the only weapon capable of destroying Ganon effectively. Often, the hero must prove his worth to the master sword by completing a set of difficult trials of power, wisdom, and courage. The Master sword may also be used to access the sacred realm and more importantly, the triforce.

The Golden Gun

Featured in 007: Goldeneye, the golden gun is a well known weapon among 007 fans. In the video game adaptation, the golden gun was capable of killing anything with a single bullet. in some 007 games, the Golden Gun was featured with infinite ammo and a single bullet clip. This forced the player to reload after every shot, which served to be a big disadvantage.

The Buster Sword

The massive, iconic blade of Final Fantasy's most popular hero, Cloud Strife. It was introduced in Final Fantasy 7 and known to have been tremendously effective for Cloud and previous powerful warriors such as Zack Fair and Angeal Hewley. Despite the massive size, it appears that the wielder has little to no issue handling it; often being able to use it with tremendous speed and balance. The only explanation to that would be that it's just a video game.

Soul Calibur

The powerful Holy spirit sword made to counter Soul Edge, the demonic cursed blade, is the main sword of the Soul Calibur series. It is able to change its shape to adapt to the user's preferred weapon type and grants the user tremendous power and desire to do good in the world. During combat, the sword is able to give the user great endurance as it regenerates health gradually. The ability to manifest in several forms and give the user a near-immortal status makes this God weapon extremely dangerous.

The Hammer

Bad time to have high %. The hammer, gaining popularity in Super Smash Bros. 64, was an in-stage item that allowed the user to go absolutely berserk. It showed no mercy and dealt damage very quickly. Fortunately, the user suffered movement restrictions and if they were unlucky, the item itself would become useless should the top part fly off. Point is, everyone feared you and it was a thrill trying to follow them as they ran for their life!

Spiny Shell

Probably one of the most annoying and hated items in the Mario Kart series, is the notorious spiky shell. It hunts down the player in first place quickly and efficiently, often ruining any chances of coming in first place. The explosion would often hit any nearby competitors for the first place making everyone..

Hate you.

Staff of Wisdom

If there was ever a way to break PvP in Dark Souls II and win with little effort/strategy, then this weapon would be the way. When fully enhanced with a proper build, the only thing left for you is to spam a button and enjoy all the nice hate mail from other players.

The Keyblade

A power weapon in the Kingdom Hearts series, it is able to lock and unlock anything, including magical worlds!

If you were in charge of creating a video game, how would you go about it?

I often hear people say that if they could be the brains behind a game, it would be amazing compared to what is being released these days. I personally would like to be in charge of a really in-depth action RPG with a rich story, online-community, deep character customization, and great replay-ability. I would have multiple games in the series with an option to transfer previous character save-data to a certain extent. I would hope to create iconic characters, locations and weapons!

There are a great variety of ways to approach a game. What idea do you have that could add some spice to the gaming world? Could you create a flawless game? I'd love to hear your ideas!

Why You Should Watch The Count of Monte Cristo (2002)

Summary

The Count of Monte Cristo' is a remake of the Alexander Dumas tale by the same name. Dantes, a sailor who is falsely accused of treason by his best friend Fernand, who wants Dantes' girlfriend Mercedes for himself. Dantes is imprisoned on the island prison of Chateau d'If for 13 years, where he plots revenge against those who betrayed him. With the help of another prisoner, he escapes the island and proceeds to transform himself into the wealthy Count of Monte Cristo as part of his plan to exact revenge.

Summary by Anna Chan

Review and Recommendation

The 2002 adaptation of the Count of Monte Cristo has been a favorite of mine since I saw it for the first time as a young child. I've seen it countless times throughout my life and yet the exciting and well-written adventure that takes place never fails to captivate and engulf me in its world. What I like about this movie is how they build up Edmond Dantes, the protagonist of the story.

He is a kind, honest, loving, poor man who turns into a bitter, revengeful, wealthy count after being framed by someone he held dear. Starting from his former self, you're made to feel exceptionally bad for him as he is taken away from his family and the love of his life due to false accusations, and then locked and tortured for several years. Yet his eventual escape and fortunate of wealth leaves him as a powerful and revengeful count who you can't help but cheer for as he takes down his enemies one by one by clever means.

Another great element that makes this story very interesting is the concept of time. It has been 13 years since he was locked away and the world he returns to has changed drastically. His enemies remain powerful and notorious, with little memory of the man they sent to hell. The woman he so loved is now married to the friend who betrayed him, and it's as if the world moved on with little to no regard for Edmond. Yet Edmond takes this to his advantage; essentially invoking the element of surprise by revealing his identity as he destroys his enemies. It's satisfying, truly.

The movie adaptation, although slightly different, still illustrates many of the themes and lessons found within the original novel. Hate, patience, luck, sophistication, mercy, and understanding come to life right before your eyes. As one individual put it:

"Firstly that to successfully prosecute revenge, one must hate, hate with a superhuman tenacity and resolve. A resolve that can endure 14 years of imprisonment in an oubliette, that can transcend hunger, deprivation and debasement of every kind.  This is no easy task but one must achieve a higher state of mind, to take every ounce of love and compassion and replace it with equal amounts (if not more) of hate. If hate was inscribed on every atom of every part of every neuron or every fiber of one's heart, that would not be enough. Hate and lust for vengeance must replace the parts of one's body, until you have no purpose, no reason to draw breath except to make your enemies pay and pay again. "

"One needs patience. To wait, contentedly, to watch one's enemies prosper and live and love while the trap takes shape. In fact, this should not be too great a hardship. The more they have when the trap is sprung, the greater their downfall."

"Understanding. That all the above, all the vengeance, is a shadow-existence in which you are as much a thrall as the subjects of your punishment. Cast off the chains that have bound you long after you left the Château d'If and live life in the sunlight again, as a human, rather than as a pawn of Nemesis"

It's a movie that will have you at the edge of your seat, believe me. Great character diversity, fantastic plot, beautiful scenery, and an amazing soundtrack. It's the full package! You should definitely check out the Count of Monte Cristo. You will not be disappointed!

Which Video Game Ending Had The Most Impact On You?

**Spoiler Warning**

My Personal Choice

Mainly being a fan of JRPG titles, I've witnessed several endings each with their own flavor, but the one that struck me the most at the spot was definitely Final Fantasy X. It's a heart-wrenching final scene! It leaves an unforgettable memory that fully encompass all the major hardships and experiences ventured by the player. It's an incredible display that the people we love the most come and go. The soundtrack playing is incredible during this scene and the visuals are out of this world. One simply can't help but be immersed to the vivid emotion!

It's quite different from other FF endings and I believe it to be one of those endings that leave you with multiple emotions, interpretations, and questions. It's the type that brings great discussion for gaming communities all over the world.

Regardless if you're born in the late 90s like Nyanners, or in the year 1890, there has to be a song that brings you enjoyment from ages ago!

Silly Love Songs by Paul McCartney and Wings

This one always makes me happy. It's got a nice beat and is extremely catchy. Just makes Nyanners move!

Everybody Loves Somebody (Frank Sinatra)

This one is soothing and romantic. Neat stuff!

Somebody To Love by Queen

This song is powerful!

God Gave Rock n' Roll To You

I loved this movie. Absolutely hilarious. While I don't know if this really counts, you can't deny that it's a great song!

Nowhere Man by The Beatles

What can I say, this song is catchy and the lyrics are fantastic.

Night Fever by The Bee Gees

How do they get their voices that high! I love this song.

Caveman Music by Filthy Frank

Always makes me laugh!

Random Thoughts With Nyanners: Do Fanboys Ruin Gaming?

$

Fanboys. You find them in all corners of internet forums and article comment sections. They have been at war even before the great birth of the mighty Nyanners. Represented by three different powers, Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft, the fanboy wastes no time in choosing which side to defend for the life that awaits them. They are often distinguished by their natural characteristic of not being able to take constructive criticism towards their respective company. Typically the fanboy will attack an individual with facts (which more than often have no proper citation or credibility in the manner), poor choice of wording, and a barrage of fowl language in hopes of compensating for the company's mistake. The best way to deal with them is to stay away from them. It's pretty simple. As Mr. Petraschuk said: "if you do give in, it’s the digital equivalent of slapping a grizzly bear in the face with a fresh salmon".

A Personal Thought

I think fanboyism ruins gaming in the following ways:

  • You're advertising the company in a very poor manner. I mean, I don't think anyone wants anything to do with a product you just insulted them for.
  • If you can't accept that said company made a poor choice, and you won't listen to constructive criticism, there's a good chance these problems will not be addressed due to bias sampling.
  • You will lose credibility as a reasonable contributor in a gaming community as one-sided assumptions are to be expected.

That being said, I'm interested in what you guys think about the fanboy effect in respect to gaming. Do they deter everything or are they nothing to worry about?

Best And Worst Impulse Purchase?

$

Many of us have had a moment where upon being exposed to a well-made advertisement, we had a sudden need to make a purchase. For many, an impulse purchase is often unsatisfactory. This is because the action is unplanned. Little to no information about the product is often known, leading to a menacing step into the unknown. On the other hand, it's not all doom and gloom. For some, an impulse buy can be a wonderful decision. You discover something new and happen to really enjoy your purchase!

  • Best impulse purchase for me would be the iPad. To me, the iPad was just an over-sized version of my iPhone. Then I realized that it was an absolute beast for watching my favorite shows. Big screen, amazing display, and very portable with incredible battery life. It's a very capable multi-media device and I use it on a daily-basis. I'm extremely satisfied with the iPad and believe Apple did the tablet idea right.
  • Worst impulse purchase would have to be Dragon's Crown on the Vita. It's the only game I never bothered to really research. Why? Well I expected it to be a lot like Muramasa Rebirth and it was far from it. I think I forced myself to play like 5 hours on it. It now sits on my Vita shrine catching dust.

So, tell Nyanners your best and worst impulse purchase!

Community Blog Response #49: Bringing The Past To The Future!

As the title says, this is a response to LiT's blog of the week #49 on the theme of "What's old is new again". This blog response will look at the positive and negative aspects of breathing life back into the Video Game classics of the past!

It's easy to remember playing a great game for the first time many years ago. The excitement and the boundaries these games pushed linger in the back of our minds to this very day. Some bring us memories of better days; while others remain as powerful displays of talent from another era. With that being said, the matter regarding remakes/remasters of older games is often met with mixed feelings from the gaming community. While some could not be happier, others want to discourage the whole concept in general. Below is a look at both sides of the story:

The approach in favor of modernizing old classics:

  • New generations will get the chance to explore games far before their time.
  • People unable to purchase a certain generation of consoles for whatever reason at the time may now have a chance to play some of the games they wanted to.
  • If the game was a blast back then, imagine how amazing it would be with modern advancements.
  • May remind developers to approach future games in a different way by looking at what made these games so successful and revisiting these ideas.
  • Emotional reunion with older players!

The approach not in favor of modernizing old classics:

  • It's a waste of time that could have been put into new IPs or direct sequels.
  • It's a poor attempt to make money by using the name of a great classic.
  • It leaves people stuck in the past and unable to appreciate the present due to constant comparison.
  • Modernization takes away the magic and charm of the game.
  • The new generation may not like the style of gameplay due to limitations of the time.

One of my personal favorites was Pokemon Crystal. Being born in the late 90s, I was still relatively young when Crystal came out. At the time that I played it, I did a lot of silly things with the game and I very much doubt I got full enjoyment out of it until I played it again several years later. Of course, with the HG/SS remakes, it was neat to see a more colorful and interactive Johto.

"WTF?" moments!

Hi everyone! Hope you're having a great day!

Today I've decided to share some of my experiences in games that left me speechless!

Please feel free to share any moments that left you thinking what on earth just happened!?

Far Cry 3

Ever see a shark swim on land? No? Neither have I. That is, unless you're in the world of Far Cry 3. Although quite an amazing game, the game is fairly infamous for silly glitches. I remember running around on the beach then making a sharp turn only to see a shark swimming on land. I have to admit, that scared the Nyanners out of me! In my defense, that just should NOT be there!

Skyrim

Oh boy, where to start with this one. Well, how do flying mammoths sound? Yeah?! Okay!

The day I decided to go visit the mammoths and have some fun also turned out to be the day they decided to go to the moon. You just don't do that to Nyanners.

Then, when I try to be brave and finally face one of the giants, I felt like I was in Team Rocket blasting off again. Not going to lie, I'm okay with this glitch/bug. Too bad it got patched! A total WTF moment for the first timers.

Dark Souls II: Scholar Of The First Sin

Doing my usual PvP when I decide to head to the dragon shrine for a little change. Everything is going alright when my opponent and I finally start dueling on the bridge. From out of nowhere comes this massive dragon, destroys the bridge and we both fall to our deaths. I honestly didn't expect that to happen in a million years. After processing what just happened, I have to admit that's pretty cool!

Playstation PS3/Vita Games I'm Excited for Summer 2015!

Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax

As a huge anime fan, I'm so happy to see this game being brought over to the west. Fighting Climax is a 2D-Fighting with an all-star cast set in SEGA-themed worlds. While it's a 13 character roster, there's sure to be someone to suit your needs. The gameplay is apparently very solid, and from a quick glance it appears to have the same approach as the simple-but-deep  BlazBlue series. The visuals are outstanding, the music is pretty decent, and it has enough content to keep people happy. This will satisfy my hunger for more 2D fighters!

Ar Nosurge Plus (Vita)

Ar Nosurge Plus is a JRPG title to be released July 2nd/3rd. One of the things that caught my attention is how fantastic the gameplay looks and how in depth some of the mechanics appear. The visuals are bright and colorful and the music doesn't sound all too bad either! There is a Physical Limited Edition being released which includes a poster, some stickers, and a few other goodies.

Lost Dimension

A promising Strategic JRPG developed by ATLUS, Lost Dimension calls for much excitement. I love SRPGs and it has been a while since I've enjoyed one on my Vita. This game has an interesting twist. See, there are traitors among your teammates. As the player, you will have to do your best to identify who they are and eliminate them. Who you kill affects the way the game progresses. It also means you can spend hours on a traitor only to have to kill them. New game plus will randomly decided who is a traitor to keep replay ability there. I love ATLUS for doing crazy things like this.

Thanks for reading! If you have any games you're excited for this summer, please comment below!

Top 5 Souls Bosses

$

0

Having recently finished Dark Souls I (Prepare to Die Edition) & II (Scholar of The First Sin Edition) on PC, I've decided to make a blog on some of my favorite fights. These are my top 5 favorite fights in no particular order.

The Black Dragon Kalameet

Kalameet is said to be the last ancient dragon. Distinguished by his crest that gives the appearance of one eye, he is the bringer of calamity. Kalameet is an exclusive boss fight to those who own the Dark Souls DLC: Artorias of The Abyss and can be summoned where you fought the Knight Artorias. Although I found this fight a little frustrating at times, it was visually impressive with well done fight mechanics. It's not one to forget.

"If thou seeketh to explore this domain, be wary of a black dragon. I fear thee no match for this terrible beast."

King Vendrick

King Vendrick is a boss in Dark Souls II. Once a great king, he spent his life to stop the demon Nashandra, disguised as his Queen, from gaining the throne of want. Instead he made a set of instructions so that your character could attain the throne of want and construct the new monarch. Although this fight isn't super exciting, nor is it difficult, it's still very tragic. It's difficult to see a person who accomplished so much, end with a terrible fate.

"The King was wasted away, a shadow of his former self."

Sanctuary Guardian

A demonic chimera guarding the Oolacile Sanctuary, is another boss in Dark Souls DLC content. This fight is a favorite of mine due to the high amount of attack patterns this fight has. The creature is well designed, the visuals are fantastic, and the diversity to the fight itself makes this a pretty memorable boss. Lots of dying here!

Ornstein and Smough

Loved by ragers everywhere, this dynamic duo come together to orchestrate a marvelous, hair-pulling performance! Behold, Ornstein and Smough! What I like about this fight is that while it makes you want to smash your PC through the nearby window, you're still having a lot of fun. It's an impressive display of a love-hate relationship with this fight. Ornstein is a captain of the Four Knights of Gwyn, while Smough is a royal executioner who dreams of joining the ranks with the Knights of Gwyn.

The Great Hero Knight Artorias

An exclusive DLC boss to Dark Souls..This fight is absolutely amazing. It's not broken, it's fair, and a true test of skills. Tragic and epic, this fight is more than just another boss fight for those who understand the lore. My favorite without a doubt.

"Thou shalt see further on, an Abyss was begat of the ancient beast, and threatens to swallow the whole of Oolacile. Knight Artorias came to stop this, but such a hero has nary a murmur of Dark. Without doubt he will be swallowed by the Abyss, overcome by its utter blackness... Indeed, the Abyss may be unstoppable..."

Thanks for reading! Praise the sun.

Hey everyone! Hope you're all doing well. Sorry I haven't made a blog recently, but life has been keeping me busy lately and lots of exciting plans and activities are coming together nicely.

  • Purchased Bloodborne last Saturday and I've been putting quite some time on it. It's absolutely fantastic! Will make a blog on my character when I reach endgame, showing my build, weapons, etc. PS4 is amazing.
  • Starting daily jogging again as I've done for years, and working to increase distance, as well as lap times.
  • Still chipping away at my Summer Job. Lots of fun.
  • Going to re-activate my FFXIV account after being absent for a few months.Really looking forward to the new expansion and catching up on the latest patches, pre-expansion. I'm going to start playing it on my PS4 since it runs it quite a bit better than my laptop. Controller seems worth trying too.
  • Going to start visiting the cottage on the beach and spend the day with some friends. Summer tradition!

With amazing titles such as Star Wars battlefront, Zelda U, Rise of the tomb raider, and many others approaching their release dates, what release are you the most excited about? Why?

I'm currently pumped for the release of Persona 5. I became a major fan of the Persona series after playing P3 and P4 Golden. The story in each game is fantastic. The characters are memorable and virtually iconic in their own respect. The RPG and gameplay mechanics ATLUS displays are very well done and captivating. I expect no less from Persona 5, which by the trailers we've seen so far, looks incredible. I love the costume theme they're using to design the main characters as well as the fast and unique movement outside battle. The customization looks more in-depth too which will really add some spice to the series!

Looking forward to your comments!

Thanks for reading my blog and have a wonderful day ^^

The Most Annoying Video Game Characters Ever!

$
0
0

It's fair to say that throughout our gaming experiences, most people have come across an extremely irritating character. Maybe it's their design, their sound, or perhaps even the type of people they are and the choices they make. Regardless of what the reason may be, they've left a dent in our hearts.

The following is a list of some annoying characters I simply couldn't stand!

Navi

From The Legend of Zelda, Navi is one of the most infamous characters known to the gaming world. This reputation is gained mainly from the voice, which when combined with the numerous amount of times you have to hear it throughout Link's adventure, slowly but surely renders one on the verge of insanity. To further add to the damage, Navi often pointed out obvious things or gave vague information for player progression.

Amy

Amy is without a doubt the most annoying character across the  Sonic series. She's always whining and angry at Sonic for little to no good reason whatsoever. Gameplay/story involving her is often very boring with little to offer. Even when she's not her typical self, Amy is nothing to remember about. Bland and cliche is all to see here. Slowing down Sonic is all she does well!

Gary Oak

Look I'll be honest, Gary can totally be a cool guy. However, he has a few nasty habits that makes me want to teach him a thing or two! See, Gary likes to show up at the wrong times. Just when your pokemon are tired and exhausted, he shows up with his relatively tough team, ready to go 200% Gary. And then there's his personality. Cocky and arrogant, you can be sure he will smell ya later.

Slippy

Having played StarFox 64 on the 3DS, this guy made my time pretty bad. Slippy is a smart, happy little guy, but he has a high tedency to get in trouble ALL THE TIME. At some point I really just wanted to shoot him down! I mean if you're going to roll with Fox's crew, git gud for God's sake!

Claptrap

From Borderlands, Claptrap drives me absolutely crazy. He rarely stops talking, makes corny jokes, and screams more often than not. His annoyance has more of a profound effect than the good he has to offer throughout the game.

Thanks for reading my blog!

Feel free to share any characters that you found annoying throughout your gaming experiences!

What final boss fight(s) offered the greatest experience for you?

SPOILER ALERT!

Please note that this blog contains spoilers. Read at your own risk!

SPOILER ALERT!

For as long as I can remember, certain video game genres have always had enemies that far exceed mobs in respect to power. These are often known as the boss. The boss typically leads the lower ranked enemies and have really unique designs, abilities, and move sets. Of course, there are special variations of the term and can extend to what is known as the final boss. The final boss is typically the master mind behind whatever crisis you face, and more than often coordinates other boss fights/events. He/She can appear multiple times throughout the game, and sometimes only once at the end. These fights can offer a level of emotion different to other boss fights. This is because at times, there exists a special connection between the protagonist and the antagonist. Perhaps they were best friends or even more, family. Whatever it may be, countless classics through the ages have shared their own idea of the fight to end it all, leaving haunting and powerful  memories in our minds.

FromSoftware's Bloodborne really struck me having recently finished the game. The final boss was magnificent.

Bloodborne's lore can be extremely confusing and complex, but behind that mess is a beautiful and genius story if you put in the time to understand it.The final boss in the game is an individual known as Gehrman, the first hunter. Being an extremely powerful hunter just like yourself, this legendary figure slayed beasts far more monstrous than the game offers and hunted with other legends such as Ludwig. He appears in the game world several times, often telling you a few tips or a thing or two about the game lore. What made Gehrman really special is that he wasn't evil, nor was he good. He was simply well aware of what was going on in this endless cycle of nightmares. He was chosen to be the host of the dream by the moon presence, a very being he himself truly despised. In addition to his role, Gehrman existed to prevent the influence of humanity over the Great ones, God-like beings that hunger for a higher conscious. Gehrman throws a curve ball at you by giving you the choice to escape the dream and return to a better reality. He wants to save you. He doesn't want you to become the very thing he is now. If you accept his offer you get what is essentially the good ending. Refusing his offer leads to two more endings. One where you become the Host of the dream and one where you essentially become a great one. Your character becoming a great one is especially significant because you remain as a human with human consciousness; something never before seen in respect to these monstrous beings.

Regardless of which path you choose after refusing his offer, you must fight Gehrman, as he tries his best to stop you from going down the wrong path. What follows next is a masterpiece duel to the death. The stage set before you is absolutely beautiful, and the music is a performance that speaks the sadness and anger Gehrman must have felt. Furthermore, The fight offers a tremendous challenge if you're not well prepared and requires some serious strategic notions if your parry skills are not top notch.

I found it difficult to hack him down because I knew he was fighting for me, but my refusal only meant that I was going down a twisted path I could never return from. This final fight is in my opinion, FromSoftware's best. Bloodborne is truly a treasure to the gaming world and a wonderful title for Playstation to have.

"Tonight... Gehrman joins the hunt...."
